A Person with The Characteristics of God

Scripture:  1 Samuel 13:14

KJV- “But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.”

Greetings to all. We discussed “the kind of heart God wants” yesterday; today we’ll talk about “the nature of the heart God desires.”

Permit me to briefly explain “what is the heart of God?” before I go on to give us a few traits of a person after God’s own heart.

Through his Son Jesus Christ, who is the path, God reveals what is in his heart. To know God’s heart or to be in God’s heart depends entirely on what you do for the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the solution to knowing God’s heart, or better yet, He is God’s heart.

Let’s look at what God wants from us as believers, though. God wants man to completely submit to Him and work in unwavering partnership with Him for the highest good of the universe and of all other beings. Furthermore, it is God’s will to give to all people freely without chastisement, regardless of what they ask for as long as it is in line with the promise and is for their good and His glory.

Let’s also consider the apostle Paul’s desire to comprehend God’s heart (see Philippians 3:10-kjv). If I may ask, did the Apostle Paul’s desire to know Jesus better stem from the fact that he had never met him face to face like the other disciples? My response is no; this is simply a personal desire on my part to get to know Jesus Christ as a person while also desiring to understand God’s heart.

However, when closely examining 1 Samuel 13–14–16–17, characters like Saul and Absalom, etc. The reason David is referred to as a man after God’s heart is because he was exceptional and loving, mourning the deaths of those who did not love him but intended to destroy him.

Therefore, for a person to be called the “man after God’s own heart” must possess the following characteristics:

1- Should be loving and have the heart of forgiveness (the fruit of the spirit)-Gal.5:22-23

2- Should have a strong passion for God (remember God searches the heart)

3- Should have a deep love in praising God even in difficult times. (God loves praises).

Therefore, in my opinion, those are just a few of David’s traits, the “man after God’s own heart”. May these traits now be reflected in our actions, and may our hearts grow to resemble God’s. Amen.
