Always Put God First

Always Put God First

Scripture: Matthew 6:33

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Greetings to all. Amazingly, even though most Christians and believers—if not all—are aware of this verse, it is the least frequently applied. However, I was raised in a Christian home, and thanks to God’s mercy, my biological father, who is also my ever first spiritual father, guided me and showed me how to go from simply being a Christian to becoming a believer with His assistance.

This verse has been quoted numerous times, both in and outside of the church. The first part of the verse is usually omitted by saying “and all these things shall be added unto me.” When reading your alphabets, they overlook the fact that you cannot mention B without A. I’ve come to realize that Jesus Himself made the conditional statement in this verse. In other words, if you don’t adhere to A’s condition, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,” don’t expect to reap B’s rewards, “and all these things shall be added unto you.”

More specifically, I’ve learned from this verse over the years that Jesus prioritized what was important to His father and His kingdom. Furthermore, you should keep in mind the following three words when thinking about this verse: Seek, Kingdom, and Righteousness. The following requires in-depth research from you:

  1. What does it mean to seek?
  2. How do I seek?
  3. What are my priorities in life?
  4. How do I seek the kingdom of God?
  5. How do I seek the kingdom of God righteously?

Friends, God has inspired me to write a book on this verse alone, which I think would take several pages and chapters to complete. I want you to be aware that this verse contains countless thoughts and offers much to discuss regarding how to seek, what the kingdom of God is like, and what steps to take in doing so.

Additionally, as I was reflecting on this verse, I stumbled upon a reassuring message from a well-known Bible teacher who was full of insights that would advance you. His name is “Denzel Washington,” and he was discussing the subject of my discussion today: Always put God first. I’m going to attach the link and share it with you all because it made me smile today, and I want you to smile too as you get ready for work, at home, or before bed.

Here are a few quotes from Denzel Washington that continue to speak to me today before I share the link.

  1. Don’t confuse movement with progress.
  2. Don’t confuse a U-Haul to a Horse.
  3. The greatest thing you could ever have or achieve in life, is helping others.
  4. Don’t just inspire to make a living, rather inspire to make a difference.

These are powerful words, and I think you’d like to know more about how to always put God first. Click the link below and listen to the end if you want to learn more.

Dear Lord, please help us to always put you first by seeking your kingdom and righteousness. We realize we cannot do it on our own, we need you to help us get this right, Amen.
