Be One of The Few

 Scripture: Matthew 7:13-14

“St. Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:”

“St. Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

 Reflection.

In his parable, Jesus discusses life and death. He exhorts His followers to enter the confined space that is opposed to the way of the world in order to seek life. The path of the world is taken frequently, but it leads to ruin and destruction.

As we continue to discuss this topic, let me leave you with a thought: Those who take the broad road often fail to realize that it does not lead to life. Because it is a path without God, all the “promises” of fulfillment and satisfaction it makes come to nothing. But the narrow way goes where the Father leads and what He desires.

Amazingly, Christians have interpreted the passage we have for today. According to preceptaustin.org, it reads as follows: According to this verse, only those who accept Jesus Christ and place their faith in Him have the authority to be adopted into God’s family (John 1:12). As a result, all who believe receive the gift of eternal life exclusively through Jesus Christ. I am the way, the truth, and the life, he declared.

Wow! The passage contained two distinctly different examples of the “Strait Gates.” Both gates appear to be straight, but one leads to destruction and the other to eternal life. The difference is that one gate is broad (wide). This verse is interpreted by so many Christians as if the broad way is only for non-Christians. Yes! I suppose in a way I could agree with that, but keep in mind that both “ways” are straight. You could therefore be following the Christian religion’s straight path while veering off onto a destructive path.

I’ve learned over the years that making decisions affect how you live your life. The decisions you make today will determine how you will end up. Either “the broad way” or “the narrow way,” “Heaven” or “Hell” are the options. Friends, there is no reason to think you might be seated in the middle. If you aren’t sure that you’re saved right now, I implore you to take a courageous step and confess JESUS as your Lord and Saviour right away because it might be too late later.

I’ll leave you with this question, though: “Would you be one of the select few who finds the perilous way to heaven?

God bless you all as you make your decisions in life.
