Delays

Delays

Scriptures: Luke 13:6-9; Luke 11: 7-8-KJV

He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon and found none.

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

And if it bears fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Reflection.

Some folks may be wondering why the topic on delay. It is important to understand why certain things in our lives are being delayed. Some people give up during this period and end up not believing that everything is possible in life. Let me begin by defining the word “delay” from the oxford dictionary perspective. “Delay is a period of time by which something is late or postponed.” Also, delay means impediment in Modern Hebrew. The biblical word for delay means “Procrastination” which involves the idea “to stop for a time.”

Furthermore, there could be different explanations to this word and meaning. Here are my thoughts, and in agreement with the biblical meaning! Delay occurs to test your persistence. Persistence is an important quality that reveals the extent to which you believe in something. You may believe in something but having to persist in blind faith will test your beliefs- Luke 11:7-8.

Again, from Luke 13:6-9, talks about a certain man that had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then he said to his vine dresser, behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none! He ordered the vine dresser to cut down the tree for not bearing fruit after a while. Meanwhile, the bible says, the vine dresser pleaded with the Lord, please, let it alone for another year, till I shall dig about it, and dung it! And if it bears fruit, well; and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. Hmmmm!

Now, this could be interpreted differently. However, here is what I’m thinking! Believers that have known Jesus for a while are expected to bear fruit (go tell someone about what you have experienced over the years). And if you are not bearing fruit after a while knowing Jesus, you may be cut down (disconnected) from the source. Friends, God expects us to bear fruit and always.

Moreover, and from Luke 13:6-9; I figured out that delay occurs to give you a chance to bear fruit. In the story above, the owner of the Vineyard decided to delay the cutting down of a tree by a year in order to give it a chance to bear fruit.

In conclusion, sometimes, a delay in your life is God’s window of opportunity for you to step into certain aspects of ministry.

DELAY IS NOT DENIAL!!!

Prayer.

Lord! I thank you for all I have and do now. I also thank you for whatever delay I may have experienced or experiencing right now. Today I have learned that delay occurs to test our persistence. Persistence is an important quality that reveals the extent to which we believe in something. And that i may believe in something but having to persist in blind faith will test my beliefs. We ask that you help us hold on to our faith until we get an answer, Amen.
