How to Fight Against Prayerlessness:

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:17

“Pray without ceasing.” KJV

This verse is clear and straightforward, yet it seems very difficult to put into practice. Additionally, there seems to be a lot to say about this amazing topic, so it might take a few days to wrap it up. I noticed that people of other religions, besides Christianity, participate in this order of practice by praying to God multiple times each day. I questioned whether Christians would adopt a regular prayer routine, not as a way to mimic other religions but rather as a way to follow Jesus’ instruction that “men ought always to pray than faint.”

More importantly, I’d like to talk to you today about what happens to a Christian who doesn’t pray and how Christians can combat this behavior. On the ship, both ashore and offshore, I have worked on a variety of engines. For an engine to be maintained, it must have a constant maintenance worker to avoid breakdowns in the future. This upkeep procedure is what I refer to as a “Preventive Maintenance System.” I prefer the definition found on, though: “Preventive maintenance is the act of carrying out routine maintenance tasks to aid in preventing unexpected failures in the future. It basically involves fixing things before they break.

Let’s define this more precisely in a spiritual context. A Christian or rather a believer maintains their prayer life by engaging in routine preventive maintenance to prevent rifts in their Christian faith. As believers, we all have experienced—or are experiencing—prayerlessness. The truth is that praying can be challenging at times.

How to Fight Against Prayerlessness

You know, your workload is a complete mess, you have urgent family matters to take care of, and you need to catch up on the games. These activities divert time away from prayer, and before we know it, it’s been some time since we’ve actually prayed.

This is not a recent occurrence. When Jesus was with His disciples on earth, the twelve disciples faced the same issue. When they had had enough, they begged Him to teach them how to pray. They had to do it because they understood the importance of prayer to Christians, even though it was humiliating. They were aware of what Jesus had said about prayer and wished to incorporate it into their daily lives.

So, how can prayerlessness be combated? After conducting a thorough search, I came across information that will help you in your effort to end the cycle of prayerlessness. I’d like to share the causes with you because I noticed that whenever a believer is prayerless, there are things that may be the root of those acts.

I was unsure whether it would be appropriate to start tomorrow with the reasons why people don’t pray. Please join me as I share some tried-and-true strategies for combating prayerlessness by avoiding certain causes that might impede you as a believer.

Dear Lord! Your instructions are very clear that we should Pray without ceasing. Could you help us as we are determined to obey you, Amen.
