How to Keep your Faith

Scripture: Matthew 27:5

“Then Judas threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged himself.”

Despite being brief, Matthew 27:5 has the potential to serve as the cornerstone of our Christian faith. Have you ever considered why Judas had to abandon his faith and hang himself, if I may ask? He wasn’t the only person to deny Jesus, in actuality. Peter would have abandoned his faith by hanging himself if he hadn’t also denied Jesus. Despite the fact that both Judas and Peter denied knowing Jesus, one remained steadfast in his faith while the other abandoned it.

Here is what I discovered on how to keep your faith as a believer.

1- EVERY PROBLEM IS TEMPORARY INCLUDING THE GRIEVE. The bible teaches in Psalm 30:5- “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” In other words, when the nights are long and the sorrow is unrelenting and you wonder if it’s ever going to end, Psalm 30, verse 5 makes clear, it is going to end. Sorrow will not have the last word in your life. Therefore, whatever you are going through right now is temporary my friends.

2- NEVER APPLY A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO A TEMPORARY PROBLEM. From our example above, and with the case of Judas and Peter, I’ll conclude that Judas applied a permanent solution to his temporary problem by giving up his faith. On the other hand, Peter did the opposite. The danger is that sometimes we decide not because of pressure, not because of purpose, and we make a permanent decision and want to reverse it later.

3- LOOSING YOUR FAITH AS A BELIEVER. The most dangerous thing in life to lose is not your money, job, career, spouse, children, or anything else. The greatest thing you could lose in life is your faith, because when you lose your faith, you have lost everything. Judas lost his faith and ended his life, and this is the more reason people would want to commit suicide believing that is a permanent solution to whatever temporary problem they may encounter. You can always be forgiving- the moment you feel you cannot be forgiving, then you apply a permanent solution to that temporary problem. (Change is constant)

To maintain your faith, you must avoid the three things I’ve listed. These three things are just the tip of the iceberg. However, if you fervently put them into practice by avoiding them, you won’t just uphold your faith—instead, they’ll develop to have an impact on the world.

Dear Lord! Please, help us to keep our Faith intact and according to what we have learned today, Amen.
