The Art of Travailing in Prayer

The Art of Travailing in Prayer

Scripture: Galatians 4:19

KJV: “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.”

There is something called travailing prayer. It is the art of prayer that results in the giving birth of new spiritual baby. It may be a baby church, ministry, or whatever you are believing God for over the years.

However, those married couples that have children would agree with me that women go through severe pains during childbirth. As a matter of fact, I have three children with different birth experience. The third child was an experience I witness physically and appreciated women during labor and understood more deeply on what Apostle Paul explained in Galatians 4:19.

Furthermore, and for the purpose of today’s teaching, allow me to explain with the following points on what it means to travail in prayer.

1- Long Hours

Women in labour spend hours and sometimes days in the labour ward trying to give birth to a new baby. You cannot claim that a three-minute prayer is travailing prayer. Nobody gives birth to a baby in three minutes. When you pray travailing prayers, you will give birth to a bigger church, ministry, or your dreams.

2- Suffering and Shame

Every normal woman suffers in the process of having a baby. That is why it is called a labour ward and not a playing ward. It is a ward of struggles and pain. I experienced this with my wife giving birth to our three children, I saw lots of women crying in pains, some naked, expressing their pains for a newborn baby to be born.

Dear friends, labour involves pain, suffering and shame. It is no joke. Travailing prayer is just the same, it involves both pain and suffering before the gain. 2 Corinthians 11:27 …”in hunger and thirst, in fasting often….

3- Hunger and Tiredness

Believers want everything easy. The Bible says that whatsoever a man sows he will also reap. Travailing prayer will make you tired.

Therefore, I encourage you to engage in travailing prayer for whatever you may be trusting God on. The more you get tired, the more you should persist and continue pushing until a newborn baby is delivered (your dream and vision being actualized) …please hold on for a while…. the fact that winter just began doesn’t mean you have to throw away your summer clothes because summer is coming again, and you may still need them anyways.

Dear LORD, please, help us to engage in travailing prayers, may all our travailing prayers end up with successful and safe delivery of our dreams and visions in life in Jesus’ name, Amen…
