The Compassionate Jesus

Scripture: Mark 6:30-34

Mark 6:30 Feeding the Five Thousand

Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.

Mark 6:31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

Mark 6:32 So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.

Mark 6:33 But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him.

Mark 6:34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So, he began to teach them many things.

 Reflection:

In verses 30-34, several biblical allusions are present, each of which emphasizes how Jesus is the true shepherd and the very beginning of the divine kingdom. Jesus had compassion for the large group when he saw them because they were like sheep without a shepherd (verse 34).

Mark 6:30–34 also shows that Jesus is moved with compassion for the crowd and attends to their needs. Trevor Stockton, a volunteer, considers how we are obligated to imitate Jesus. There was no rest for Jesus, but the apostles needed time to rest, recover, and regenerate as well as to eat from the spiritual table.

I like how effectively verse 34 was expressed in the NKJV. He emerged, observed a sizable crowd, and was moved by compassion for them because they resembled sheep without a shepherd. If you are familiar with sheep, you will notice that they are led and guided by a shepherd. First, JESUS left His hiding place (a deserted area) and went to the people. Second, He felt sympathy for them. Thirdly, He had a lot of thoughts for them.

 LESSONS:

These few considerations will lead me to my conclusion, and I urge you to provide your own personal responses to your creator.

1- As a disciple (servants) of Jesus, do you have your own deserted place (organize personal retreats occasionally)? 6:31

2- In the case of Jesus meeting with the people, He had compassion. See, lots of people seek miracle today in our world, but I’ve come to discover that Faith + Compassion = Miracle. What drives you to reach out to lost souls(evangelism)? 6:34

3- What actions have you taken to reach out to people around you because of your drive(motivation)?

Here is my final suggestion regarding the verses for today. Despite what our ego minds may tell us, Jesus is reassuring us that we have nothing to fear. We are here to fulfill a spiritual mission, and as long as we are aware of and fully trust the spiritual Truth that resides within us, we won’t experience any kind of lack.

 Prayer:

O LORD, HELP US THIS DAY TO DO AS YOU DID IN ORDER TO REACH OUT TO LOST SOULS IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.
