The Integrity You Have with God

The Integrity You Have with God

Scripture: James 4:8

KJV: “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”

 Reflection.

According to bibleref.com, James’ perspective on verse 8 is explained. “First, he advised us to stop pursuing our goals in a blind manner. We ought to submit to God instead. Next, rather than continuing to work with the devil, we should resist him. When we oppose Satan, as James promised, he will flee. James urges us to approach God more closely in this verse.

Wow! The verse for today, in my opinion, contains a command from God rather than merely advice. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you, is a straightforward and self-explanatory adage, in my opinion. This implies that you MUST be the first to act, though, as God will never lower His standards. Therefore, if you want to be intimate with God, you must first come close to Him. Once you do, He will dwell within you and give you the strength, power, wisdom, etc. you need to finish the race.

Here’s a great idea I found from McAnulty, who concisely explains what the Bible says about the phrase, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” James 4:18a This assurance is comforting and motivating. Additionally, it serves as a reminder of our obligation to God. Draw near simply means to approach something or someone and get close to them.

Additionally, there are instances when it appears that the closer you get to something or someone you love, the further away it gets, like a hazy cloud. You decide to give up even though you know in your heart that you might not succeed in reaching your goal. If you don’t consistently approach (draw near) whatever it is you may be pursuing in life with passion, I’m positive you won’t ever achieve it. Friends, when it comes to having real intimacy with God, this is the same. God only asks that we “draw near” to Him by doing so; He will take care of the rest by doing the same for you, resulting in an abundant, exceeding, and great reward.

Would you rather stop approaching God on a daily basis by consistently reading the Bible, praying, fasting, and giving Him your plans or look for a solution elsewhere? I agree that the choice is yours, but, in the words of Joshua, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” for there is no retreat and no surrender. 👍

 Prayer.

O LORD: WE DESIRE TO HAVE AN INTIMACY WITH YOU BY DRAWING CLOSER; BUT MOST TIMES WE FIND OURSELVES NOT DOING IT AS INTENDED. PLEASE, TEACH US HOW TO DO IT YOUR WAY IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.
