The Land of Goshen

The Land of Goshen

Scripture: Genesis 45:10-11

10You shall settle in the land of Goshen and be near me— you and your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and everything you own. 11And there I will provide for you, because there will be five more years of famine. Otherwise, you and your household and everything you own will come to destitution. NLT

Reflection.

Goshen also goes by the namesake “land of plenty and comfort.” The land of Goshen is a land of God’s abundant provision, and that is what the NLT translation says in verse 11.

The Wikipedia explains that “The land of Goshen (Hebrew: אֶרֶץ גֹּשֶׁן, ʾEreṣ Gōšen) is named in the Hebrew Bible as the place in Egypt given to the Hebrews by the pharaoh of Joseph (Book of Genesis, Genesis 45:9–10), and the land from which they later left Egypt at the time of the Exodus.”

Only twice in Exodus does the name Goshen appear in the narrative of the plagues of Egypt, where Goshen is exempt from both the fly and hail plagues that befall the Egyptians because it is the Israelites’ home. I like how the bibleproject.com explains the spiritual meaning of Goshen, it says- “The land was ultimately a place where God could dwell with humans—the place where God’s space and humans’ space overlapped. In the garden, humans walked with God in the cool of the day, experiencing his gracious gifts and ruling over creation with him.”

More specifically, I’d like to discuss this verse’s meaning and the significance of living in Goshen’s land in the contemporary Egypt we currently inhabit. The events that are currently taking place around the world were first predicted by Daniel and later mentioned by Jesus when His disciples asked him to explain the signs of the end in the book of Matthew 24. He did mention a lot of warning signs and pleaded with us to be on the lookout for them. The children of Israel spent the majority of their lives in slavery and in Egypt!

They did, however, have the right to live in the land of plenty known as the land of Goshen before they were made slaves by their masters. Considering my definitions and description, it is most likely that some people are living in Egypt or their home country of Goshen. Whatever you are doing or where you may be right now is only temporary. I have good news for anyone who may have ended up in Egypt: God is bringing a means of escape to your house. You will soon be out, but to reach your promised land, you will first be taken to a place where you will experience the wilderness. Fear not; God has provided everything you need to enter your promised land.

More importantly, for those who are currently residing in Goshen, which represents comfort, abundance, and plenty. Remember that it is also transient. I implore you to acquire all the knowledge you might require and to thank God for allowing you to avoid the plagues of Egypt. The devil, however, is not pleased that you are there, but who cares? If God wills, staying with Jesus could make the Goshen land you’re in a perpetual haven of comfort. Praise God if you are currently residing in the Goshen region and have not yet come to know Jesus. In order to continue living in the Goshen region, your next step should be to accept Jesus and get to know him personally. I tell you, staying in Goshen is preferable to residing in Egypt and becoming a slave. Please take note that I’m speaking of the time the children of Israel spent in slavery in the hands of Pharaoh from a biblical standpoint.

I therefore beseech you to join me in saying these brief prayers if you want to join this land of Goshen or stay in accordance with God’s plan.

Prayer.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. So, help me oh God, Amen.
