THE PASSIONLESS OR LOVELESS CHURCH(EPHESUS)

THE PASSIONLESS OR LOVELESS CHURCH(EPHESUS)

SCRIPTURE: REVELATION 2:1-11

Revelation 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. (Please read from verse 1-11 for proper understanding)

INTRODUCTION.

Firstly, I would introduce list of the seven churches God talked about from the book of Revelation which includes the following:

  1. The Passionless or Loveless Church- Ephesus
  2. The Oppressed or Persecuted Church- Smyrna
  3. The Unstable or Compromising Church- Pergamos
  4. The Unscrupulous or Corrupt Church- Thyatira
  5. The Deceased or Dead Church- Sardis
  6. The Steadfast or Faithful Church- Philadelphia
  7. The Half-Hearted or Lukewarm Church- Laodicea

 REFLECTION:

Sequel to my brief introduction yesterday, I thought I should further introduce the names of the seven churches as listed in Revelation 1:11- “Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou sees, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

Today, I shall begin with the first church in chapter 2 of Revelation. And from my study, I understand that these verses are divided into 4 parts namely, Introduction of the Seven Stars/the Seven golden candlesticks; Commendations; What they need to know and an advice of repentance.

However, if you read carefully, you’ll observe that they were commended on their labour, patience, works for God just like some of us were commended when God used us to heal the sick and raise the dead or possibly do something substantial.  At a point, you forget that it was God that gave you the grace to do all those miracles. Also, they were faithful and zealous at the beginning as some of us where when we first received Jesus into our lives; but something went wrong which verse 4 points out the wrong; “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left they first love.”

Hence, are you that man, woman, servant of God, that first loved God and was zealous at a point but hast left thy first love (God). There’s still an opportunity today to amend/repent and come to God again.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the Churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God (see verse 7). Also, remember the church is you and I which makes it more personal to reflect upon.

 PRAYER:

HOLY FATHER, IN ANY WAY WE HAVE FALLEN OUT OF YOUR GLORY, FORGETTING OUR FIRST LOVE. PLEASE, HELP US COME BACK AND BE MORE ZEALOUS/PROACTIVE TO YOUR COMMANDS IN JESUS NAME, AMEN. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Please share…. someone needs to hear this message. Remember, when you share messages like this and others, you automatically become part of obeying the great commission which is the very last words of Jesus before He ascended to heaven. Let’s obey Him….Be blessed.
