Scripture: Acts 1:8

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Acts 1:8 records that Jesus does not give his disciples instructions on how to observe certain customs, behave in a certain way, or abstain from certain actions. When the Holy Spirit descends upon them, he assures them that they will bear witness to his authority.

Furthermore, the final recorded words of Jesus from His earthly ministry are found in Acts 1:8. According to verse 9, these are the last words the Lord will say before being “taken up.” Although Jesus is said to have ascended to heaven while bestowing blessings upon His disciples, this is not stated in Luke 24:50–53.

Let’s discuss the rationale behind the Holy Spirit’s work following the bloods using these five points.

1.The outpouring of the blood of Jesus on Calvary’s cross made it possible for the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost.

The moment Jesus died on the cross was the occasion when his blood was spilled for all people. The Holy Ghost was poured out on all flesh during the event of Pentecost. A few weeks after Calvary was Pentecost.

However, once the Holy Ghost descends upon you, you will be endowed with power and bear witness to me throughout Jerusalem, all of Judaea, Samaria, and the entire planet. Verse 1:8

2.The Lord could baptize us with the Spirit only after He had shed His blood.

The disciples were living and working near the Lord, but Jesus was unable to bestow the Holy Spirit upon them until after His death. Though He yearned to bless them, Jesus Christ was unable to do so until the blood was spilled.

But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive for THE HOLY GHOST WAS NOT YET GIVEN, BECAUSE THAT JESUS WAS NOT YET GLORIFIED. John 7:39

3.The Old Testament priests were anointed with the oil only after they were anointed with blood.

“And he shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: And the priest shall pour of the oil into the palm of his own left hand:

And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD:

And the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the trespass offering:” Leviticus 14:25-28

4.John the Baptist described Jesus as doing two main things.

He proclaimed Jesus to be the one who would take away sins with His blood and baptize with the Holy Spirit.

‘Behold the lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world’-John 1:29

‘This is he who baptiseth with the Holy Spirit’-John 1:33

5.Both the blood and the spirit emanate from the Lamb of God and the throne.

The seven spirits of God are sent out from the throne in which stands the lamb that was slain. The Spirit of God flows directly from the lamb who has shed His blood. And I beheld, and, lo, during the throne and of the four beasts, and during the elders, stood A LAMB AS IT HAD BEEN SLAIN, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are THE SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD sent forth into all the earth. Revelation 5:6

Finally the mission of the disciples is outlined by Jesus in Acts 1:8, starting in Jerusalem and going all the way to the ends of the earth. We are all called to be global evangelists because we have a mandate to share the gospel with people in every country and culture.

Let us go over this lesson several times, reflecting carefully and seeking to know what the Holy Spirit wants us to take away from it.

Dear Lord! Thank you for teaching us the reason behind the Holy Spirit’s work coming after the bloods. We thank you for the power you promised and has released to us as we begin to posses the power in us.
