The Word in Me-Part One

The Word in Me-Part One

 Scripture; Matthew 4:4- KJV

“BUT HE ANSWERED AND SAID, IT IS WRITTEN, MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDETH OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.”

 REFLECTION:

I noticed that speaking God’s Word is discussed in this week’s daily digest messages from God. And if you pay close attention, you’ll see that God is telling the reader of this text some things about His Word and how you can apply—or rather, relate—these teachings to help you get out of any situation you might be in by simply speaking God’s word. I hope that was clear.

Another lesson on what to do in stressful situations or times when you are really unsure of what to say or do is being taught today. Jesus experienced a similar situation after fasting for 40 days without food or water. The devil appears with an amazing offer that seems priceless. We’ve all probably experienced situations where we were given offers that seemed priceless but were harmful to our faith.

This is how the bibleref.com explains this verse- “After Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness, He was hungry. “Fasting” does not require that a person have no food, at all, for the entire period. Given that Jesus was in the wilderness, however, scholars speculate He might have gone entirely without food and only taken in water. His body would have been aching to eat something. Satan’s first temptation to Jesus is designed to exploit His human, physical appetite. He challenges Jesus to turn rocks into loafs of bread if He is the Son of God.”

Both Jesus and Satan were aware that he was the Son of God. To encourage Jesus to act independently of God the Father is the goal of the temptation and that remark. Satan wants Jesus to choose His own will over the Father’s in order to commit sin. Jesus was fully aware that the Father intended for Him to face temptations while suffering from a compromised physical state. Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy as He rebuffs each temptation, connecting His own 40 days in the wilderness to Israel’s experience of the 40 years following their exodus from Egypt. Jesus cites Deuteronomy 8 in this passage. Jesus makes it clear to Satan that He will put His obedience to the Father’s word before satiating His appetite.

The proverb “Man shall not live by bread alone” is used frequently today to refer to the idea that true life requires more than just material possessions. It is occasionally used, almost in the exact opposite sense, to defend material luxuries other than necessities like bread. For instance, when you completely fill a drum with water. The water you have inside the drum will overflow when it leaks. God wants us to read, listen to, and study His word constantly so that when temptations come our way in 2023, we can only defeat the devil with the WORD IN US. Faith is a product of hearing God’s word repeatedly until we have an overflow of it.

Having said that, I think both the devil and Jesus had knowledge of the written and spoken word, according to my opinion and understanding of this verse of Scripture. While Jesus is the “WORD HIMSELF,” the devil’s experience with the word is to paraphrase it for malicious purposes. Despite being an experienced tempter, the devil came to tempt Jesus. However, Jesus overcame him by speaking what was written in the word (within Him). Therefore, regardless of how long you have been a follower of Christ, you cannot defeat the devil through experience. Instead, you can “only” defeat the devil through the words you have internalized over the years and are ready to speak at any time.

 LESSON.

You must not only be familiar with God’s word on the outside, but it is also crucial to know and remember it on the inside.

 Prayer.

O LORD MAY YOUR “WORD” ABIDE IN MY HEART ALWAYS AND MAY THE WORD’S IN MY HEART COME OUT AS A DEFENCE FOR ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD THIS YEAR IN TIMES OF CHALLENGE IN JESUS NAME. AMEN AND AMEN.
